A peek behind the scenes of a relocation pre-party

Recruiters: What makes the difference between a successful job placement and a broken job offer? It involves relocation. The difference begins during the pre-party, when a real estate agent is selected and paired with a job candidate.

Profile Referral Systems (parent company of Connect2Agent) has been matchmaking relocating families with real estate agents since 1990.  Recently I spoke with Abbie Platt, an Account Manager with a knack for agent-corporate transferee matchmaking. Join me as we take a peek behind the scenes of a relocation pre-party.

Scene One begins with a job candidate who is considering an offer from a company. The job candidate’s acceptance of the offer would involve a relocation. The next move the wise recruiter makes is to call a third-party company to assist in placing the candidate with a competent real estate professional. This is where Profile Referral Systems steps onto the scene.

PRS contacts the candidate and his/her significant other to discuss their relocation needs, concerns, family situation and find out what is relevant to them. The big key is to uncover any underlying concerns the relocating transferee or significant other has that the recruiter may be unaware of.

Knowing what is holding candidates back becomes a primary quest in matching them with the right individual who will get them the information and resources needed to make an informed decision.

Finding the real estate agent that will mesh the best with a candidate is no easy task. Candidates are not just given a name and phone number for the next real estate agent in line to work with a client. Platt informed me that after an extensive qualification search for real estate agents with specific services and skills, as many as four relocation specialists can be interviewed for the job. These agents are asked questions based on what is important to the candidate.

Out of the runners-up, only one agent is selected and introduced to the candidate.

Scene Two involves consistent communication. This occurs between the agent and candidate up to, during and after their visit to the new area. When the candidate accepts the position, PRS sets them up with moving professionals and listing agents. The recruiter is provided with feedback throughout the whole process.

The recruiters’ success in placement largely depends upon the success of PRS in matching the right agent with the candidate. It is a partnership.

Here are some party favors for recruiters who are interested: Candidates are concerned with more than landing the job. They want to know about the schools, housing market, taxes, resale values, medical facilities, athletic opportunities for children, music programs and many other things important to moving.

It’s a mistake to think that job and salary are the only concerns a candidate has. Thinking this way may cause you to lose out on making a placement. Candidates and their families have concerns and issues you may not know about, and dismissing this could cost you the placement.

A family may have a child with special needs and not know if resources relevant to the child are available in the new area (medical care for the specific need, schools and other educational programs). There is a whole array of issues families have. A relocation company can find out what is holding them back and get them the appropriate information and resources.

Once candidates know more about the potential new community, they feel less anxious, will interview better and will likely accept your client’s offer.
