Realtors Join in Building Homes for Heroes

There were no dry eyes today at the celebration/ceremony marking the raising of the walls of the first four homes in Habitat for Humanity’s “Homes for Heroes and Foundation for Families” neighborhood in San Juan Capistrano. Homes for Heroes is a pilot project for Habitat. Fourteen of the 27 homes to be built on a 2.7 acre site here will be marketed both to combat-disabled veterans and their families and to the surviving families of deceased veterans. It is anticipated that this program will be continued throughout other parts of the country.

At high school graduation ceremonies across the country, proud parents are mentally saying fond farewells to their hands-on parenting days and looking forward to long-distance love from children who will be moving away to attend university this fall. What too many parents don’t realize, as they help their children make the transition into adulthood, is that the parents should be making a transition, too — into investment property owners and landlords.

Ask Dr. Real Estate: Should I Resort to Niche Craft?

Question: So far in my real estate career I’ve worked exclusively in residential real estate. I’m doing very well and I really enjoy working with home buyers and sellers, but I’ve heard that specializing in a specific area, such as investment real estate or commercial properties, is the road to the really big bucks. Any suggestions?
